Was her face the moon or sunlight?
by Laura Krentzman, Cody Green, Amanda Rice-Johnston, Abby Langhorst, Önder Özkoç, Dawn Posey, Erberk Eryilmaz, Alyssa Wang, Wei Lim

Inspired by the Anatolian love song, Mecnun’um Leylam’i Gördüm.

This very moving folk song describes the lover’s beauty by using metaphors referring to outer space. In Turkish, a beautiful face is often likened to the moon. Specifically, in this folk song, we hear mention of the moon, sunlight, Venus, and stars in the famous love story of Leyla and Mecnum. 2:57
