Diamonds are compressed carbon that have the highest hardness and thermal conductivity of any natural material on Earth, yet they are prized for their flawless translucency and beauty that captivate the eye. There are immense diamonds found in space many light years away. These are the crystallized cores of stars left over after the stars use up their nuclear fuel and die. Scientists estimate that five billion years from now, our sun will die and become a white dwarf. Approximately two billion years after that, its ember core will crystallize as well, leaving a giant diamond in the center of our Solar System.
